Introduction
The RJEM Organizing Framework is a multi-level conceptual and analytical tool that offers concepts and ideas shown to be useful in understanding racial justice in early math. Developed by the RJEM Local Planning Committee, its main purpose is to support community members, educators, administrators, researchers, and policy makers to:
- develop a robust understanding of racial justice in early mathematics.
- engage in deep reflection on their praxes.
- create anti-racist educational practices and systems.
MAIN COMPONENTS OF THE RJEM ORGANIZING FRAMEWORK
The RJEM Organizing Framework consists of:
- A clear vision and set of goals for racial justice in early mathematics;
- Multiple levels of analysis, including micro, meso, and macro considerations;
- Eleven points-of-entry that ground the framework in key educational issues related to racial (in)justice; and
- A set of example reflection questions that invites thought and action related to praxis, structures, and systems.
Framework
We are currently working to publish a peer-reviewed article about the RJEM Organizing Framework and develop an online guide to support K-2 educators implementing the framework in their practice.
